this anthology brings to light the music of robert Æolus myers, featuring recordings from 1982 to 2006 that were previously available only on cassette or cd.
the music within �a retrospective� tells the story of a man whose music elevates its listeners to a place of inspiration and enlightenment. often ethereal, Æolus� music is driven by synthesizers, melodic flutes, sweeping patterns, and subtle rhythms to seed inspiration from deep within the listener.
one might assume that Æolus carved a new path for electronic music in hawaii, but the islands never quite fully embraced the burgeoning new age scene that Æolus found himself a part of during the 1980s and the early 1990s.
few artists in hawaii have produced a body of work, let alone embarked on a musical journey, such as the one that Æolus has created.

the first record from the mysterious monsieur blue attracted plenty of favourable attention from the deep house and minimal fraternity when it dropped last year, and so the anonymous artist rolls around for a second bout with this sterling three-tracker. deep and dubby pads meet with rock-solid grooves on the a1, while the a2 track strips things back to an insistent rhythm, emphasising the space in the mix. the b-side track meanwhile channels a funky energy into the spaced out headspace monsieur blue inhabits, completing a strong trio of club-ready trippers for the dreamiest of dancefloors.

at a recent gig in macedonia, he played an incredible �live pure data� set, using real-time graphical data flow programming to create all his own sounds. with this huge wealth of knowledge and a hard drive stacked with unreleased productions, his �spookz ep� is long overdue. he describes his music as industropical or funkyndustrial and when you hear his two original cuts on this ep, these descriptions become more apparent. �spookz� is dappled and harmonious with sweeping electronics and in-depth grooves. �prance for me� is atmospheric and quaking in its deliverance, showing all his innovation and creativity. the ep comes with two stellar remixes. the first is by el prevost who delivers a grinding reworking of �prance for me�. el prevost has been forging his sound over the last decade, gradually shifting into the house and techno scene in particular for uk label, third ear and his most recent self-run label, no speakers, which boasts a varied artist roster that includes doorly, red rack em, wbeeza, 65d mavericks and gabbi lopez. rommek�s remix of �spookz� follows and shows why this recently emerging artist is fast becoming a definitive force on the techno scene. fellow loose lips collective member, rommek made his production debut on weekend circuit, before joining james ruskin�s iconic blueprint label who released his �moth hole ep�, plus an appearance on their 20th anniversary compilation, �structures and solutions� gaining him an admirable reputation for textured sound designs.

having honed his sound on a string of feted self-released cassettes released on his own harsh riddims label - which has also put out everything from bizarro hip hop to gleaming synth pop - and dropped a hyped 12� released on the cgi imprint, the healthcare ep finds fit of body delivering his most accomplished work to date. five woozy original tracks jammed out on second hand drum machines, bass guitar, cheap mics and creaking synths, this is techno as it was first imagined, raw machine soul made for strange times and unknown futures.

the next cosmos release comes from salomon dunkan, a mysterious and unknown producer who serves up two tantalising tracks... . android (adamantium mix) is a slow and percolating house track with a rugged acid line and sharp percussive knives cutting up the rubbery kick drums below. swirling pads add a cosmic atmosphere and there whole hits slowly but surely builds to a raging and intense peak of bristling hits and gurgling synths. it s controlled chaos and then tacchi a spillo treads a more direct path. again the high hats are bright and sharp, the mood is very sci-fi and the bass lines rumbled down low. like a deep space odyssey this one travels far and wide and grows ever more physical and jacking as it goes on.
